BD&P Hosts 7th Annual International Women’s Day Luncheon
BD&P was delighted to host its 7th annual International Women's Day luncheon on Friday, March 6, 2015, with the BD&P lawyers and guests being treated to luncheon at the Calgary Petroleum Club and a presentation by dynamic guest speaker Dr. Shimi Kang.
An award-winning Harvard-trained doctor, researcher and expert on the science of human motivation, Dr. Shimi Kang offers the tools people of all ages need to succeed in the workplace and at home. Dr. Kang is the current Medical Director of Child and Youth Mental Health for Vancouver and a Clinical Associate Professor at UBC.
Dr. Kang is also a writer and the author of critically acclaimed book The Dolphin Parent: A Parent's Guide to Raising Healthy, Happy, and Self-Motivated Kids Without Turning into a Tiger.
This event is also a fundraiser, having supported a number of charities over the years, sometimes local, sometimes international in scope. Our charity this year was the Calgary Food Bank, a fund raising partner with BD&P in the Put the Boots to Hunger campaign which primarily runs through the 10 days of Stampede. The campaign has raised over $3 million in its 6 year existence. Last year over 132,000 Calgarians sought the assistance of the Food Bank – and 56,000 of those were children. With the current price of oil, increasing numbers of people in Calgary and surrounding areas will suffer the loss of income this year, putting additional pressure on the Food Bank. Thank you to our clients and guests who joined us at the event and gave generously to support the Calgary Food Bank.
