BD&P extends a heartfelt thanks to all of its clients, friends, community partners and members of the general public for contributing to the success of BD&P's 9th annual PUT THE BOOTS TO HUNGER Campaign which was launched by BD&P's $100,000 contribution during Stampede 2017. We watched that amount grow over the course of Stampede with the campaign having now raised in excess of $4 million over the 9 year initiative.
We were thrilled with the performance of our GMC Rangeland Derby driver Logan Gorst who provided lots of exciting action on the track and entered the finals in first place. Overall, Logan placed second in the Stampede 2017 Aggregate and is currently in eighth place in the WPCA 2017 World Standings.
PUT THE BOOTS TO HUNGER is a campaign partnership between BD&P and the Calgary Food Bank to raise funds and to encourage the donation of food, with the hope that all Calgarians who need to rely on the Food Bank can do so. The demand for the Food Bank’s services is constant and year-round, yet donations are focused around the year-end holiday season. The majority of those coming to the Food Bank for emergency food hampers continue to be the working poor. It is our goal to provide the Calgary Food Bank with the resources it needs to ensure Calgarians needing the Calgary Food Bank have access to its resources.
BD&P is committed to the continued opportunity to recognize the true "Stampede Spirit" of community support which is afforded by the PUT THE BOOTS TO HUNGER campaign. The elements of the PUT THE BOOTS TO HUNGER initiative offers the Calgary Food Bank a unique and valuable opportunity to raise awareness in our community and to inspire individuals, community groups and corporations to support BD&P in achieving the goal of providing quality, emergency food to those in need.
For those unfamiliar with our tarp program, BD&P purchases a chuck wagon tarp and donates it to the Calgary Food Bank to use in a unique fundraising initiative where sponsors purchase the tarp for use on one of the 10 days of Stampede. Our nightly chuckwagon co-sponsors this year were CEL Electric, Fluor, Alaris Royalty, Sheraton Suites, Brookfield, Freehold Royalties, TAQA, Devon and Crew Energy.
Please consider a donation to the Calgary Food Bank in support of the PUT THE BOOTS TO HUNGER campaign at any time of year. In so doing, you will help raise awareness and funds for a critical organization upon which far too many Calgarians have to rely. Last year the Food Bank served over 170,000 individuals from all quadrants of the city, with approximately 40% of the Food Bank clients being children. Donations can be made by cheque to the Calgary Food Bank, noting our Put the Boots to Hunger campaign, and sent either directly to the Food Bank or to BD&P or can be made online.
Thanks to all of our tarp purchasers, the staff of the Calgary Food Bank, all donors and everyone else who helped make this such a successful campaign!
