1L Summer Student Positions - 2017
Seeking First Year Summer Students – 2017
Burnet, Duckworth & Palmer is looking for first year law students to join us as summer students from May-August 2017. Our student programs are designed to give you real-life, hands-on experience working with our lawyers and clients on the same files our articling students and junior associates work on. Spending a summer with us will give you the chance to explore virtually every business, industry and government sector and can help you determine what direction you want to take in your upper years of law school and your career.
Our summer students work alongside our associates and partners in a collaborative and supportive environment. The work you will do is substantive; our students do not spend their summers doing deliveries or making photocopies. Our focus is on teaching you to use the knowledge you have gained from law school in a practical setting. Our students are often surprised at how much they learn during a summer with us, and use this knowledge during the remainder of their law program.
BD&P is renowned for its collegial environment. We value team-players who are bright, motivated, friendly, and intellectually curious. We have very high hire-back rates and do not hire 'cookie-cutter' individuals. When we hire a student, it is with the hope that he or she will come back to article with us and ultimately become an associate and partner.
BD&P is a full-service, Calgary-based firm with over 100 years of history. Many of our 140 lawyers are nationally- and internationally-recognized industry leaders. We have a high proportion of female associates and partners. Our summer students have full access to our private gym, enjoy free lunches prepared by our chef, and are given transit passes for the summer. We foster collegiality amongst our students and as a result, our students build enduring friendships during their summers with us.
How to Apply
If you are interested in a summer student position with us, please apply by email to Alison Bennett at [email protected] or through the viRecruit portal. The application deadline is January 26, 2017.
Please feel free to contact any of our articling students if you would like to speak with them about their experiences at the firm. We look forward to hearing from you!
Interviews will be held at our offices in Calgary from February 21-24, 2017.
