Brendan Downey

Brendan earned his law degree (with distinction) from the University of Alberta, where he was awarded a Faculty of Law Undergraduate Scholarship, the Roger S Smith Undergraduate Research Award, the W Bernie Kelly QC Memorial Prize and the Edward E Bishop Prize for excellence in securities law. During law school, Brendan served on the editorial board of the Alberta Law Review and assisted with the administration of the Morrow Essay Contest. He also helped teach a first year Legal Research and Writing course, competed in the Laskin moot and placed second in the Canadian Client Consultation Competition. Outside of his studies, Brendan played inner tube water polo and was a member of the Energy Law Club.

Before diving into the world of law, Brendan briefly pursued his childhood dream of becoming an author, completing a Bachelor of Arts (with distinction) in Creative Writing and Philosophy at the University of Victoria. Throughout his undergraduate studies, Brendan was a member of the varsity rowing team, winning two national championships and serving as captain in his third year. In his free time, Brendan enjoys experimenting with Italian and Indian cooking, hiking and cycling.
