In 2014, BD&P pledged to give $300,000 to RESOLVE, a capital fundraising campaign which was established to raise funds for the creation of affordable housing in the City of Calgary. RESOLVE is a first-of-its-kind collaboration of nine registered Canadian charities, led by the Calgary Homeless Foundation and also including Accessible Housing Society, Bishop O’Byrne Housing for Seniors Association, Calgary Alpha House Society, Calgary John Howard Society, Horizon Housing Society, Silvera for Seniors, The Mustard Seed Foundation and Trinity Place Foundation of Alberta.
The RESOLVE campaign meets one of the key goals of Calgary's Plan to End Homelessness and Housing First which is to establish affordable homes in our city with the supports needed to help those housed overcome their challenges and live sustainable lives. RESOLVE is designed as a one-time collaborative fundraising campaign during the Implementation of the Plan (2008-2018). Its goal is to raise $120 million to build affordable and supported rental housing for 3,000 vulnerable and homeless Calgarians.
BD&P's donation to RESOLVE builds on its nearly $1 million commitment in donations and pro bono work toward ending homelessness in Calgary over the past decade.
BD&P's Chair, John Brussa, sits on the Board of RESOLVE. John is encouraging other lawyers and business leaders in Calgary to contribute to the campaign. "I am trying to talk to folks and give them the pitch for why this makes sense not only from a social perspective but from a business perspective. It's a good investment in a better city."
