As a corporate and securities lawyer, Prateek works with clients at some of the most critical points in their business journeys. From early-stage financings to major acquisitions, business sales, and complex shareholder disputes, he relishes the opportunity to support clients when it matters most. 

Prateek thrives helping clients move beyond one-off solutions to develop enduring strategic frameworks built on trust and close collaboration.

Industry Experience and Perspective

With a background in geology, Prateek has a natural affinity for advising oil and gas clients. He also regularly works with clients across agriculture, software, health, and emerging technology sectors, a breadth that allows him to bring creative, cross-sector insight to every engagement.

Clients value Prateek’s ability to listen carefully and frontend load the work of understanding their goals. That clarity allows him to deliver focused, efficient, and practical advice throughout every stage of a transaction.

His commitment to staying at the forefront of legal practice is reflected in his role as an instructor at the University of Calgary, where he teaches environmental law to business students alongside his growing practice. Teaching in a rapidly evolving area of law keeps Prateek closely attuned to emerging legal and scientific developments, ensuring his advice remains current and forward-looking.

One of the aspects of BD&P that Prateek values most is the firm’s culture.

Prateek shared that BD&P’s minimal hierarchy and lack of red tape create meaningful opportunities for lawyers at every stage to grow. Lawyers are encouraged to be directly involved in the work, not simply pushing paper, and to contribute to real solutions. 

He credits his success to the support of the entire BD&P team, with particular appreciation for his assistant Tiffany and the junior lawyers in the Business Law group.

Beyond the Office

Outside of practice, Prateek has a passion that may surprise some: he’s a devoted reality TV fan. While joining the partnership may put his Survivor aspirations on hold, his competitive spirit and enthusiasm remain very much intact.
