We provide innovative and commercially-sound advice during all stages of a project development
Our Project Development and Finance lawyers are respected leaders in their fields, advising on all aspects of domestic and international infrastructure projects and transactions. Our project development experience is as diverse as the industries in which the clients we serve operate, and includes petrochemical facilities, power and renewables (electricity, natural gas, wind, solar and hydro), oil and gas production and processing facilities, pipelines, LNG terminals, rail, telecoms and technology.
We work with clients during all stages of project development: from initial concept, through scoping, planning, permitting, financing, construction, commissioning, operation, decommissioning and dispute resolution. Specialist lawyers from within the firm provide seamless guidance on specific matters that may arise such as co-ownership/business combination structure, tax, project finance, construction, regulatory, environmental, real property, commercial agreements, employment, First Nations, IP issues and dispute resolution.
We have acted for clients on many complex infrastructure projects and appreciate that the development of a major project requires innovative and commercially-sound solutions to complement traditional corporate, commercial and financing structures and methods. Our team understands the risk involved in complex project development and provide practical advice to ensure project success.
We are fortunate that our clients have enlisted us in some of the most significant mega-projects in Canada including LNG Canada, the CNRL Horizon Oil Sands Project, Hibernia, the Athabasca Oil Sands Project, the Shell Muskeg River Oil Sands Project, the Cold Lake Pipeline Project and the Long Lake Project. Some of our more recent experience includes advising Shell Canada on the LNG Canada Project in British Columbia, advising TransAlta Corporation on a 200 MW+ wind farm project and advising Progress Energy Canada Ltd. and PETRONAS in connection with the development of a $5 billion natural gas pipeline project.
Our body of work demonstrates that we are creative and able to apply what we have learned to new situations (for example the LNG and unconventional resources industries in Canada) and that we are capable of finding new ways to create value for our clients (our lawyers developed the royalty trust structure that revolutionized the capital markets in Canada).
